How To Make Perfect Jalapeno Kaiser Rolls

Kaiser rolls are delicious and they can be used for many different things. You can eat them with butter, make a sandwich, and even use them as hamburger buns. However, if you eat them often, you might be getting a little sick of the same taste over and over. Here is a recipe for a delicious, jalapeno Kaiser roll.

Ingredients:

Jalapeno Kaiser rolls are great for hamburger buns or just eating plain. The ingredients needed include:

  • ½ oz active dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp cornmeal
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 tsp cold water
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp diced jalapenos
  • 1/3 cup canola oil
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 6 ½ cups all-purpose flour

Preparing:

First, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a baking sheet.

To make the rolls, pour 1 ½ cups of the warm water in a mixing bowl. Add the yeast and allow it to dissolve. Add one tablespoon of sugar to the mix, and set the mixture aside for five minutes. Once it's done sitting, add the rest of the warm water to the bowl. Next, add the canola oil, salt, sugar, jalapenos, and 4 cups of flour. Mix thoroughly until the batter is smooth. As you stir, slowly add in the rest of the flour. The dough should be soft and have some elasticity when you're finished.

Rising:

Spray a glass bowl with non-stick spray and transfer the dough. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and store in a warm place. Let the dough rest until it doubles in size. Next, lightly flour a surface to work on and knead the dough. Divide it into balls for the rolls. You can shape it into a perfect circle for regular rolls or as a thick disk for hamburger buns. Put the rolls on the greased baking sheet and let the dough rise for another 20 minutes.

Once you're ready to bake, mix your water and milk mixture together in a cup or small bowl. Brush the mixture onto the dough, and then sprinkle cornmeal on top of it. If you like the indentations on Kaiser rolls your purchase at the bakery, you can create them with scissors or the side of a knife.

Baking:

Bake the rolls on the cookie sheet in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes. They will be golden brown when finished. Serve with butter or cut in half to make a sandwich or a hamburger.
